Therapy
Psychotherapy is a form of treatment aimed at relieving emotional distress and mental health problems. By working one-on-one with a therapist, individuals will examine and gain insight into their life choices and difficulties. Therapy is a safe space to express your feelings and emotions while also having the opportunity to learn more about yourself.
What to Expect
Each person is first offered a free 15-minute virtual consultation to assess for the problem areas and to see if it is a good fit for you and the therapist. If both parties agree that this is a good arrangement, a full therapy session can be scheduled. Therapy sessions are typically 45-50 minutes in length. A therapist’s role is to offer you insights into your experiences, advice on how to handle issues, and evidence-based treatment for mental health conditions. Therapy at Eclectic Psychological Services is offered only to individuals 16 years or older. We have both in person and virtual modalities, which depend on therapist availability.
Frequently Asked Questions:
-
The first session can be described as the “getting to know you” session. The therapist will often ask you many background questions and then more questions about why you were interested in therapy. You and your therapist will discuss your goals regarding what you want to get out of therapy. This will help to focus your sessions and give you perspective on how you want to grow. These goals may need to change over time depending on circumstances.
-
People go to therapy for all sorts of reasons: getting treatment for mental health conditions, healing from trauma, improving their relationships, or just having a safe, neutral space to talk about their life. Whatever your reason for seeking therapy, it is valid, and your therapist is there to support you. Therefore, we encourage you to talk about anything you would like help on!

Depending on your personal goals, therapy can be a short-term program with a set amount of sessions, or can be a long-term commitment. A short-term commitment may be for dealing with a specific event or getting advice on a particular issue. A longer commitment is often helpful for managing symptoms of chronic mental health issues like depression, or for having a reliable space for personal growth over time.
